On 21 March 2017, an architectural competition for the Terra et Casa part of the Cité Internationale du Grand Morillon development was launched, with candidates participating by invitation. The plan was for 8,000 m2 of gross floor area to be devoted to housing and 1,000 m2 to shops and business premises.
Of the 10 architectural firms that took part, it was Bonnard Woeffray Architectes SA, based in Monthey (Valais), that most impressed the jury, because its project effectively addressed the architectural, functional and economic challenges presented by the development. The architects also scored highly for the environmental quality of the project and their sound understanding of the setting.
